Daily Doodle

About This Project

This is a project I worked on as a sketching practice and a tool to research discipline. Studying limitations but still having freedom of outcome, these “doodles” are done using only a black pen on receipt paper/tape. I decided to use receipt paper to tribute my research on consumerism at the time, and I wanted to do a continuous drawing in a scroll fashion.

It ended up being a great exercise to keep things in my mind pretty random and get me warmed up to just letting things happen. When I was drawing, I had no proposed subject, and I formed the sketches from the other shapes, sometimes throwing in some hand lettering to get some hand lettering practice. The sketching compounds into really cool contrasts and forms. The final length of this roll was 40 feet, and roughly about six months of daily drawing.
